Are you a mom? Ok so you’ve experienced the burnout and overstimulation side of motherhood. And if you’re anything like me you’ve put yourself last for as long as you can remember. It is crazy how us moms can supply others’ needs before taking care of our own and the craziest part is, most of the time it’s without question – an undeniable instinct.
We jump into action, save the day, “get it all done” all the time and before we know it we find ourselves suffering from exhaustion, brain fog and lashing out at our kids or spouse. In this post I will share 5 things that could help reset your nervous system so that you can and give you a mood boost so that you can continue being your best self!
If you’re really fancy or want to go all out, the video in this post is an example of a relaxing self care idea that you could do alone or with friends.
This post is all about the top 5 self care day ideas that will help reset your nervous system.
Self Care Day Ideas for Mental Health
Here are some things I do to prioritize my self care and reset my nervous system:
Journal & Prayer
I try my best to do this daily. I especially do this when I am starting to feel a little burned out or not my best self. Taking 20-30 minutes to write out your feelings, dreams or goals, is a mood booster in itself. You should reflect during this time also. It serves as motivation to look back on what you have journaled in the past and reflect on that. When I do this it gives me confidence and is a reminder that I am more than a mom and that I have dreams and goals too.
Prayer during this time allows you to connect with God (or your higher being) for guidance and growth.
Outdoor Walks
I never knew a 20 minute walk could make me feel so accomplished. Walking outside specifically will allow for creativity to flow. It bring clarity and peace. I never knew how much I actually enjoyed being outside until my son was born. I started taking him on walks outside during my maternity leave to help sooth him and since then I have enjoyed being outside and getting small doses of nature.
Mani & Pedi Day
There is something about getting my nails done that makes me feel good.
Getting Dressed & Ready For The Day
When you look good you feel good. Get out of those legging and over sized t-shirt. Yes, they are comfortable but there are other lounge outfits you can put on that are just as comfortable. Also, put on some makeup. Not a full face but light foundation, mascara, concealer and a light nude or clear lip.
Reading
Whew! This one. This is the one. There is nothing like having 30-minutes to an hour or more of alone time with a good book. I was NEVER a reader until I turned 36. I hated reading growing up but oddly loved to collect books based off of the way the cover looked – weird. I know. Recently, I started getting more curious about myself and the things I liked. I wanted to try things I disliked again and try new things. I used Chatgpt to help in this but I found a love for reading. This time really allows me to connect with myself and allows my imagination to explore.
In closing, take some time to love on yourself. Yes, self care feels good when your doing things like nails or going to the spa but mental self care is just as important. This post was all about 5 inexpensive self care day ideas that rest your nervous system and get you feeling good! Add this to your planner monthly (or whatever schedule works for you) that way it’s always prioritized and pre-planned. If you can’t do all of these, pick one and stick to it. Take care of yourself & your body. Get up. Get organized. And happy planning!
